XERF
What is XERF?
XERF is a dual-frequency, monopolar radiofrequency (RF) lifting and tightening system by Cynosure Lutronic, with power up to 400 W. It generates heat by rotating water molecules within the skin, raising target tissues to about 45–60°C. Heat is delivered from the dermis and reticular fibrous septa down to the SMAS (fascia) layer, activating fibroblasts and inducing neocollagenesis for comprehensive, long-lasting tightening and lifting.
How does XERF work?
Dual-frequency synergy: Combines 6.78 MHz + 2 MHz RF to deliver heat more stably to deeper tissues, prolonging thermal exposure and enhancing tightening.
High-power monopolar RF: Up to 400 W to increase heating efficiency and energy deposition, promoting immediate collagen contraction and long-term remodeling.
Multi-depth treatment: Three selectable depths to personalize heating layers (from dermis to subcutaneous fat/SMAS).
Wave Fit Pulse proprietary pulsing: Up to 12 segments of “RF—pause—cooling” pulses. It rapidly heats, then maintains at moderate energy for improved safety and comfort.
Intelligent cooling and temperature control: Pre-cools skin and monitors temperature throughout; output pauses automatically if epidermal temperature is too high, reducing overheating risk.
Web-pattern treatment tip: Minimizes edge effects and peripheral overheating for more even, stable energy distribution.
Large-area applicator: A 2 × 3 cm facial tip (~6 cm²) improves coverage and thermal build-up versus comparable systems, shortening treatment time and enhancing results.
What is XERF best suited for?
- Fine lines, wrinkles, and rough texture
- Periorbital laxity
- Cheek and jawline laxity, ill-defined contours
- Decreased malar (apple cheek) support, reduced facial fullness
- Submental skin/fat laxity and emerging double chin
What to expect during treatment?
Consultation and assessment: Evaluate laxity, wrinkle distribution, and contour goals; plan areas and depths.
Preparation: Cleanse skin, apply conductive/hydrating gel; discuss comfort management if needed.
Treatment: Dual-frequency RF with Wave Fit Pulse for steady heating and maintenance; continuous cooling and temperature control.
Completion and aftercare: Physician provides post-care advice; most people can resume normal activities or apply makeup on the same day.
What are the treatment areas?
- Face: forehead, periocular, cheeks, nasolabial region, jawline, chin
- Neck
- Other laxity-prone sites: extend to selected body areas as assessed
Is the treatment painful?
The pulse design and cooling prioritize comfort; topical anesthetic is usually unnecessary. Sensation is typically warm to hot. If heat-sensitive, discuss parameter adjustments and extra cooling with your physician.
How many sessions are needed to see results?
Depends on skin condition and goals. Many see tightening and texture improvement after one session. The manufacturer notes sustained effects; common practice is to start with one, then schedule additional or maintenance sessions based on response.
How soon can I see results from?
Immediate: Collagen contraction can produce subtle, instant lifting and refinement.
Mid-to-long term: As fibroblasts are activated and collagen regenerates/remodels, tightening and contour improvements build over weeks to months.
What to avoid after the treatment?
For 24–48 hours, avoid high heat, saunas, and intense exercise; emphasize hydration and gentle cleansing.
Use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and reapply; temporarily avoid aggressive procedures on the same area. Consult your physician before combining treatments.
If persistent redness, heat, or discomfort occurs, contact the clinic promptly.
Are there any side effects?
Common and temporary: mild redness, swelling, tightness, or tenderness, resolving within hours to 1–2 days.
Wave Fit Pulse, intelligent cooling/temperature control, and the web-pattern tip help lower the risk of overheating and uneven heating.
