What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® injection is a medical aesthetic treatment that stimulates collagen production. The main ingredient is Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Sculptra® promotes deep facial collagen regeneration, resulting in gradual and long-lasting effects.

How does Sculptra® work?

The primary ingredient in Sculptra®, Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), penetrates the skin to stimulate collagen production. This regeneration process is not immediate but gradually becomes noticeable over approximately 4-6 weeks. Eventually, PLLA decomposes into lactic acid, carbon dioxide, and water, which are naturally absorbed by the body.

What is Sculptra® best suited for?

Sculptra® is most suitable for treating the following issues:

  • Sunken cheeks and temples
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Jawline definition
  • Skin laxity and sagging

What to expect during treatment?

When you receive a Sculptra® treatment, the session is expected to take about 30-45 minutes. The process involves using a fine needle to create a small opening over your skin, and the solution would be injected to the target area via a very thin cannula. While the treatment is not pain-free, the discomfort is often described as minimal and no anesthesia is required.

What are the treatment areas?

Sculptra® can treat areas including:

  • Cheekbones
  • Cheeks
  • Temples
  • Perioral lines (around the mouth)
  • Jawline
  • Sagging jowls

Is the treatment painful?

There may be slight discomfort during the treatment, but lignocaine is typically mixed into the solution to reduce pain. After treatment, there may be mild swelling or bruising, which usually subsides within a few days.

How many sessions are needed to see results?

Typically, three sessions are required, spaced 3-4 weeks apart. After completing the full treatment course, results can last for approximately two years.

How soon can I see results from?

The effects of the treatment are not immediate but appear gradually. Noticeable results typically emerge around 4-6 weeks after treatment, with more significant improvements after three sessions.

What to avoid after the treatment?

After treatment, you should avoid:

  • Strenuous exercise for the first 24-48 hours
  • Excessive sun and heat exposure
  • Alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours
  • Supplements and medications that may increase bruising and swelling

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects are related to the injection itself, including redness, pain, itching, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. These are usually mild and resolve within a few days. Rare but more serious side effects may include allergic reactions, infections, or filler displacement. Any adverse symptoms should be reported to the doctor immediately.
