What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is an injectable skin treatment consisting of a high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), designed to hydrate the skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. It is unique due to its BDDE-free formulation and its ability to achieve bio-remodelling of the skin.
How does Profhilo work?
Profhilo works by being injected into the skin where it acts as an “injectable moisturiser,” stimulating skin cell receptors to counteract skin laxity and improve firmness. The combination of high and low molecular weight HA ensures not just hydration but also triggers the skin’s repair processes, promoting the synthesis of new collagen and elastin.
What is Profhilo best suited for?
Profhilo is best suited for treating signs of skin aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and skin dryness. It is particularly beneficial for improving overall skin quality in the face and neck areas by addressing skin laxity and restoring skin firmness.
What to expect during treatment?
When receiving Profhilo treatment, you can expect a minimally invasive procedure with injections administered at specific Bio Aesthetic Points (BAP) on the face for optimal diffusion, with the treatment duration as short as 10-15mins only. The treatment involves minimal discomfort and has a quick recovery time with few side effects.
What are the treatment areas?
The primary treatment areas for Profhilo are the face and neck. However, it can also be used on other parts of the body such as the hands, arms, and décolletage.
Is the treatment painful?
The treatment is generally not considered painful, but some patients may experience mild discomfort. Ice pad can be used to minimize pain during the procedure.
How many sessions are needed to see results?
For optimal results, an initial course of two Profhilo treatments is recommended, spaced one month apart. Maintenance sessions are then advised at intervals of every 6 to 9 months.
How soon can I see results from?
Some improvements may be seen shortly after treatment, but the full effects are usually more noticeable after the second session and in the weeks following, as the HA continues to stimulate the skin’s own production of collagen and elastin.
What to avoid after the treatment?
After Profhilo treatment, patients should avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours, stay out of extreme temperatures (like saunas or cold rooms), and refrain from strenuous exercise for a short period as advised by the doctor.
Are there any side effects?
The side effects of Profhilo are typically minimal and may include bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection sites. These are usually temporary and resolve within a few days. Because HA is biocompatible and is eventually broken down by the body, there are no long-term side effects. However, as with all injectable treatments, there is a risk of more significant complications if injected improperly, which is why it’s important to have the treatment performed by an experienced practitioner.
